Misty Isle Gin is the only gin made on the Isle of Skye, by the Wilson brothers, Thomas and Alastair. All of the gin is made locally in Portree and the brothers say the bottle shape represents the elements if the Isle of Skye with each bottle being unique and different. They also tell us 'Our juniper berries are hand foraged from various wild locations around Skye. Our Juniper is then slowly distilled in traditional gas fired copper pot stills for approximately 8 hours, then vapour infused with our botanicals.'
They use 11 botanicals in total including; Juniper, coriander, grains of paradise, orris root, liquorice root, black cubebs, lemon peel, cassia bark to name some and one which is top secret and only comes from the Isle of Skye.
This results in our gin being Juniper heavy but not too floral with earthy undertones and a hint of spice, subtle flavours of citrus with a refreshing after taste.
Recommend Serve: A Scottish tonic water or Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic water, garnished with a twist of fresh orange peel.
|The WSD: Lots of citrus comes through, especially lemon, and juniper (V)|
|The WSD: A slight hint of saltiness, cassia bark and mint. Plenty of citrus still there. With tonic still plenty of citrus, tones down the juniper and gives a bit of an earthy taste. (V)|
