Tasting Notes

Nose
Distillery: Fresh, breezy start suggestive of a beach explorers rock pool, with its seaweed and shellfish. The peat smoke opens softly with herbal, aromatic notes of lemon thyme and lilac. Add water and those seaside aromas evolve to evoke seafood; razor clams, maybe or sweet crab meat.
Taste
Distillery:  The palate is oily and enthralling, first with bags of peat smoke and a wonderful maritime saltiness, peppery spiciness, oaky dryness and herbal peat smoke ensues.
Finish
Distillery:  The long bitter sweet finish is laced with more charred lemons and cacao, and is still powerfully smoky.

    Lagavulin Distillers Edition 2001

This Distillers Edition of the Classic Malts of Scotland Lagavulin from 2001 has been double matured and is from release number lgv.4/506. It was bottled in 2017. Full bodied Lagavulin is richly peated, smoky and intense on the palate, mightiest of the Islay malts in style, it has a salty edge of sea-spray.  The master distiller has hand selected a small number of casks  for double maturation in Pedro Ximinez cask-wood. It's accents of rich, sun-dried grape sweetness have been chosen to compliment this spectacular single malt's rich, complex style.
