Description
Dark Origins is inspired by the cunning spirit and courageous personality of Highland Park's infamous founder, Magnus Eunson. This latest addition to the core expression uses twice as many first fill sherry casks than in the classic Highland Park 12 Years Old resulting in a naturally darker, richer flavour.

| Distillery: Sherried spice and ripe bananas combine with toasted hazelnuts and baked apple.The WSD: It's a good start, It smells good from a foot away. It's smoky fruit cake with a touch of marzipan which could be maraschino cherries. Floral smoke keeps popping back in.But there is also a citrus fruit fudge and there is a definite orange segment edge - pith and all. Orange and raisin oat biscuits that have been well baked and slightly caramelised on the outside. Almost salted bonfire toffee. |

| Distillery: Well balanced, dry peat at first mellowing out to maraschino cherries, warm dark chocolate entices the palate.The WSD: Sweet on the palate. Almost dark chocolate orange. There is a balance given by notes of cape gooseberries. And such smooth smokiness which becomes a bit tobacco chewy. It is all benefited by the higher alcohol strength. The taste is very sweet, hot toffee sauce and hot wood. Water adds leather to the mix. Its a night out at a smoke free bonfire party. |
