The Glen Garioch 12 Years Old benefits from maturation in two wood groups: American Bourbon, and Spanish Sherry casks. This results in a whisky with lots of heather and pears and a little oak.
WSD's Comment: Sweet. Ripe bananas and pineapple chunks. Coffee bitterness on the finish.

The new 21 Years Old is created using both Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez sherry casks, and takes its name from the parliament of rooks that have been nesting in the trees overlooking the distillery for almost 200 years.
What The WSD thinks: Intense raisin concentrate on the nose. Fruit cake and cardamon on the palate, the fruit cake is very well done and baked oranges are added.

In the 19th century, Scotch whisky was frequently transported across the Glens in quarter casks. Laphroaig today breathes new life into the tradition. Still-maturing whisky from standard ex-bourbon barrels is transferred to quarter casks and left to rest in the warehouse just a stone's throw from the Atlantic shore. This increased oak contact creates a soft and velvety edge to compliment Laphroaig's distinctive peatiness.

Immense, intense and full of Smokehead boldness and attitude".
